The Lodge on Lake Lure

The Lodge was built in the 1930's by the North Carolina Highway Patrol as a retreat for officers and their families. According to the Wlodarski's, it was constructed to honour a highway patrolman named George Penn, who was killed by two convicts in 1937. It was opened to the public as an Inn back in 1990.

It is reputedly haunted by the apparition of Penn, and the Wlodarski's report that Room 4 is where he has "frequently" been seen. Although phenomena include the movement of objects, lights being switched off and on, and the sounds of footsteps.
